A LITTLE BIT ABOUT US AND OUR BEEF
Farming has been passed down through the generations, and has arrived at Polly, the first daughter to run the farm business. Polly is involved in every part of the business, from calving, feeding, butchering and packing! She took over the farm 18 months ago and has seen it grow to a herd that includes rare and old English breeds. Polly is passionate about preserving these old breeds so everyone has the chance to taste this high quality, delicious beef.
We have five traditional breeds on the farm, including three rare breeds. Please click on the Breeds button, to find out more about the different breeds and meats.
Polly stands for tradition and making sure your meat is reared slowly and hung on the bone for extra taste. We use the most knowledgeable and skilled butcher (who is teaching Polly) and we can provide you with all the traditional cuts and advice on cooking methods best suited to the cut; especially for those strange sounding old fashioned cuts!
We have a wide range of quality meat available. Our herd is reared in the village, fed on a completely natural diet and free to roam our pasture between April and November. To cope with demand we sometimes visit a local farm and pick out the highest grade animal, to supplement our herd. These animals will always be raised with the same high standards and, of course, be old British breeds such as Sussex and Hereford.
Our cattle are slaughtered at an organic abattoir in Oxfordshire then transported to our amazing butcher, Joe, where it is hung for at least 31 days on the bone.
Some of our meat is vacuum packed. This process means that the meat will maintain texture, no freezer burn will occur and the meat will not dry out. Additionally, the meat will also continue to mature once packed up and sitting in your fridge. Our Rib on the Bone joints will arrive wrapped in the traditional peach paper.
When you buy fresh meat from us, you can freeze it safely for up to 1yr (at -18 degrees).
Our main objective is to keep the food miles as limited as possible.
We are also FABBL registered; this stands for Farm Assured British Beef and Lamb. FABBL can reassure you as the consumer that the bit of the process they are involved in, i.e. the rearing of the animals, are of the highest of standards
